Thunder Ridge Middle School
What is Slithers?

Thunder Ridge Middle School in the Cherry Creek School District has something no other class in Colorado has; it's called "Slithers".  Science teacher Pam Schmidt has a collection of dozens of snakes which have all taken up permanent residence in her classroom.  The formidable task of caring for all these snakes doesn't fall solely on Schmidt, though. Each Summer she recruits a small army of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to act as snake guardians for a year.  The students' duties include feeding the snakes, cleaning up after them, observing them for any signs of ill health, and holding them occasionally for a periodic dose of human contact.

Once a year, parents and any other interested adults are invited to a 90-minute seminar given by the students to come see their menagerie of beautiful reptiles.  The next "Adult Slithers Class" happens on Wednesday the 22nd of April 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the school's cafeteria.

Thunder Ridge Middle School is located at 5250 South Picadilly Street in Centennial.
