Why should I join CHS?

Membership in the Colorado Herpetological Society is exciting and fun! Our members all have one thing in common: a love for reptiles and amphibians. The Society exists to further the cause of herp conservation, to help animals in need, and to promote herp education anywhere we can.

When I pay my dues, where does my money go?

It's no surprise we hear this question often. Although nobody affiliated with the Colorado Herpetological Society receives any money for their work, it does take money to exist:
  • To pay the annual fees associated with remaining a certified Colorado nonprofit corporation.
  • To remain bonded and insured against liability.
  • To sponsor the cost of medicating and feeding rescued pets until they can be rehabilitated (if necessary) and eventually adopted.
  • To pay for the privilege of holding our meetings in the King Center each month.
  • To pay for booth space at conventions and expos. Many times we are granted this space by the organizers since we are non-profit, and we are always very grateful for their generosity.
  • To pay for hosting and maintenance of the CHS web site.
  • To purchase materials held in our constantly-growing CHS library.
  • To pay for advertising.
  • To pay for operating expenses such as banking fees, office materials, and computer software.

That makes sense - how do I join?
